Research topics
The research and advanced research are organized within the frame of the Centre of Applied Researches in Electrical Engineering and Sustainable Development (CAREESD).
Established in 2010 within Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, CAREESD has been designed to catalyze R&D, technology transfer and innovation in electrical engineering and oriented it towards answering the challenges of a sustainable society. Since then the research activities at CAREESD are focused on designing, developing and validating technologies to make possible the implementation of advanced Electromechanical Systems and Power Electronics (ESPE) to transport and energy industry.
Advanced electrical machines and drives
For electrical machines and drives low noise and weight combined with high efficiency and reliability is a particularly desirable feature in transportation and energy conversion systems. Due to the significant impact the development of advanced electrical machines will make in many applications, in particular in transportation, it is foreseen that this research area will be dominating electrical machines and drives research during the next period. The developments in materials, power electronics devices, converter topologies and control methodologies will enable advanced topologies for electrical machines. The interest in this field is growing fast in both academia and industry and research efforts are focused on the design and multiphysics analysis of advanced electrical machines, high frequency power converters and control strategies to meet the high efficiency and high reliability requirements...
